Mass Effect: Andromeda

Release date: March 21, 2017,  Game Type: RPG

Mass Effect: Andromeda is an RPG that will be a top contender for Game of the Year, without a doubt! The third installment of the series will be boasting several big changes, re-inventing the feel and style of the series. The trailer shows new planets and species, a new home base that you can upgrade, resource mining and crafting, and environmental hazards. Most notably, Bioware says they are trying to find a balance between FPS and RPG style, creating a more ‘mobile’ combat experience. And as usual, some more steamy romance options!

Release date: April 11, 2107,  Game Type: Platformer

Rare (Donkey Kong, Banjo-Kazooie) is back! Hopefully, this will rise above the domination of platformers by Nintendo. Lots of ex-Rare staff should be able to procure that same feeling you used to get playing their games. The recipe is remaining the same, and everyone will be looking forward to Yooka-Laylee to exploring large levels with lots of collectibles.

Persona 5

Release date: April 4, 2017, Game Type: JRPG

Personacontinues to fill the ‘another day in the life of high school’ niche, with special powers and all. This time you’re a master thief, looking to overcome challenges and avoiding traps. All the while maintaining your social status, and relationship with your Persona (guardian spirit). This highly anticipated sequel is looking to fill some awfully big shoes left behind by Persona 4, and well. Basically the entire series. There’s definitely something worth getting excited about here.

Release Date: May 2017   Game Type: FPS

Preyfalls into the sci-fi alien FPS category. It’s published by Bethesda, which means the bar is understandably set high. The upcoming game trailer reveals some trippy mind scrambling time paradox stuff, where you wake up on a space station orbiting the moon. All the while blasting aliens with guns, mind abilities and the usual melee weapon arsenal. You can expect lots of dialogue and different story paths based on how you talk to and deal with people in the game, like Mass Effect or Fallout. Prey will be using the CryEngine, which will provide a similar experience to Crysis, or Robinson: The Journey.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

Release Date: TBA 2017    Game Type: Action Adventure

Uncharted is without a doubt one of Sony’s top sellers and brand names for PlayStation. Chloe taking over Uncharted like only she can, proving to be a match for Nathan on any day. This titles gives us more time with the fan-favorite but also opens the door for some beautiful maps in India’s mountains. Chloe hits the scene with Nadine Ross to pursue the Tusk of Ganesh, running into some hiccups and difficulties along the way.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Release Date: Q4, 2017   Genre: Fighting

What’s in the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite? You’ve probably seen plenty of these fighting games. Capcom, DC, Smash, Street Fighter, Tekken, Soul Calibur. There’s nothing like seeing your favorite characters from different franchises fight each other.  Megaman X, Ironman, Captain Marvel, Ryu and other classic characters will be going head to head, with a small twist from the other VS fighting games. The addition of “Infinity Gems” are going to add some creativity, and spice up the game a little. They boost attacks and add passive abilities. What character matchups will you be looking for?

Days Gone

Release Date: TBD  Genre: Horror Survival

Days Gone puts you in the world of Deacon St. John. He’s a survivor in the “Freaker” infested, post apocalyptic, hopeless world. What is a Freaker, you might ask? Not quite dead, disgusting zombie-like creatures. Ammo is, of course, rare to find, and not worth using except life or death situations. As these creatures swarm you, you’re forced to run through the environment, using terrain and objects to slow them down behind you. The truly open world is built around progression based on your character. You basically have access to the whole map, but may choose not to go near some of it until you character has what you need. We know these games are kind of overdone, but Days Gone should prove to be worth a play. It’s a PS4 exclusive and is already in the running to be the best of it’s kind.

God of War

God of War like we’ve never seen it before.  Centered around Norse mythology, Kratos has a new set of challenges to face (with his son) this time and is a continuation from God of War 3. The gameplay is re-imagined, giving players a new perspective and a fresh tactical experience, while diving into the deeper, emotional journey. New combat stuff includes a battle-ax with a Mjollnir style throw and returns functionality. The theme seems to revolve around Kratos’ showing his son how to be a God, and his son showing him how to be human again. You can expect much of the same, seamless action, and perhaps a bit more character development in this title. See what happens when an immortal demi-god makes the decision to change.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Release Date: Q3 2017    Game Type: Adventure

Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming this year, and many believe it will be the strongest GOTY (Game of the Year) contender. Rockstar is working on the third installment in the ‘Red Dead’ Series, set in the ‘shoot em up’ wild west era. With the map having already been leaked last year, we know for sure there’ll be a huge online mode similar to GTA (hopefully loads a wee bit faster), but aside from that, there isn’t a lot of info about RDR2. You’ll still be able to ride around holding people up, and have shootouts while stealing damsels in distress. The promo material shows several characters, perhaps a band of outlaws to switch between, similar to GTAV. It will probably be a prequel. Everyone’s so excited about RDR2 that when they teased images on the website, their stock went up 6%. Again, the project is very hush-hush, so there isn’t much info on it.

Crash Bandicoot: N Sane Trilogy

Release Date: TBA 2017  Game Type: Adventure

You know what it is. Crash is back on PS4 with N Sane Trilogy, a fully remastered version of the original 3 games: Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2, and Crash Bandicoot: Warped. The remaster gives life to some of the dated levels while introducing HD character graphics. The old school feeling is still there, while you jump and spin yourself through the adventure.

There is no point in changing what is not broken!

Gran Turismo Sport

Release Date: TBA 2017    Game Type: Racing

Gran Turismo Sport is returning with an all-new competitive attitude and look. Sony’s renown racing title is focusing on competition, making Gran Turismo an e-sport. With all the Esports video games taking off nowadays, this could prove to be an exciting experience. In the past, most Grand Turismo experiences have been based offline, but not anymore. GTS will be an online focused game, with 3 game modes. Arcade, Campaign, and Sports mode. It will also have support for PSVR, creating a realistic, immersive racing experience. This game has immense potential to impact the market, as there are no real racing sims out there fighting for #1 besides the new Dirt Rally, and Driveclub.

Detroit: Become Human

Release Date: TBA 2017    Game Type: Adventure

If you’ve played Heavy Rain, you’ll know the eerie kind of ride that gives you some feelings you’re not sure of. Detroit: Become Human is the newest from David Cage. It’s a story driven game with interactive scenarios that affect character development. You’ll be guiding the characters through a futuristic Detroit. The big trick with these game types is keeping the attention of the audience, and creating the emotional attachment that makes you want to stay seated and find out what happens next.

The Last of Us 2

Release Date: TBA    Genre: Horror

The Last of Us spawned many die-hard fans worldwide, claiming it was one of the best games ever to come out. This was mainly due to the gripping story set in a post-apocalyptic world. Ammo and resources are a rare find in these games, depending on the tactful use of environment and combat physics to bring down the spore zombies. The trailer from PSX showed some promise, highlighting Ellie while showcasing similar elements and themes from the first game.
